I went through my full education from Grade 1 to Grade 12 at Progressive Academy. L. Ron Hubbard’s Study Technology helped me enormously in this education. I was able to rapidly learn and understand my materials, so much so that I graduated Grade 12 at the age of 15.

I then immediately went to the University of Alberta for a degree in Engineering. This was actually my first experience with an education system where Mr. Hubbard’s Study Tech was not in use. Now I myself did fine, since I knew how to learn, and my education from Progressive Academy was pretty clean. But I could see where my University friends struggled.

For instance, in class the professor would explain some engineering concept. I would listen to what he was saying be able to understand it. A friend next to me would be taking notes so that hopefully after the lecture he could go over it again and figure it out. That was the difference.

But in courses which were new, and the lectures went over my head, I still knew exactly how to tackle them. I just applied the Study Technology.

There was one time I was working on homework with a friend. He told me he was having problems with a question. I looked it over and asked him what one of the words meant. He didn’t know. And yet this was what the whole question was about. So I dug out the textbook and had him look over what this term meant. I then had him sketch this thing out on a piece of paper, so that he could see how it worked. I then had him look at a simple case where this concept would apply, followed by a more complicated one, and so on. So he looks at the problem again, and says, “Well, that’s so easy!” Then of course he says, “Okay, that was an easy one. Yeah. What about this other one? This one isn’t easy.” I did the exact same thing, and again he says, “Well, okay, that was easy too. But there are hard questions, I have seen them, and you would not be able to figure them out like that!”

Of course all I did was apply the basic tools of Mr. Hubbard’s Study Technology. And there isn’t anything more complicated to study than that. People expect that there is, and I have seen all sorts of weird “tricks” to study. But there isn’t any way to study and understand something without actually going ahead and UNDERSTANDING it, right? And that is what the Study Tech gives you, the exact breakdown of how to actually understand what you are studying.

So Progressive Academy really gave me two things – one, a clean education which I could build on, and two, the technology of study so that I could read and understand something new.

And this is something that certainly affects me today. I am currently working as an Engineer developing state-of-the-art micro-machines. I am constantly learning new mathematics and physics so that I can properly design them. And I constantly use the Study Tech to do this.

So I really want to thank the school here, without which I would not be where I am today. Thank you.
