Junior/Senior Kindergarten Family Tea

The Junior Kindergarten/ Senior Kindergarten Family Tea was a success with over 150 parents and grandparents in attendance. We want to thank our wonderful families for all of the support that you give your children, and to our school.

As families entered, we had each family write a message of hope and love to their child on a “leaf” and add these heartfelt words to our family tree. As families were served tea and strawberry shortcake, they enjoyed wonderful performances from each of the four Junior Kindergarten and two Senior Kindergarten classrooms, and a special treat from Grade 6 student, Emily, who sang the opera “Pie Jesu”. Priceless.

What an excellent opportunity for creation, engagement and dramatic exploration in the education process.

Science Fair

Leah

Progressive Academy hosted a school science fair with students from Kindergarten to High School participating. Two projects went on to showcase our school at the Edmonton Alberta School Science Fair. Student’s curiosity was on display highlighting Solar Power and how it works, Gyroscopes, Natural Disasters, to building their own interactive white board and computer. Congratulations to Daniel Blair and Anthony Nyguyen who went on to win first place at the Edmonton Alberta Science Fair for their “Pocket Projector” project showcasing their portable interactive white board and computer.

New Asian Village

This year students from the Grades 1 and 2 classes and Junior Kindergarten classes were welcomed into the New Asian Village Restaurant in Sherwood Park. Students learned about South Asian customs, and culture, as well as the jobs that it takes to run a business in the restaurant industry. Food, music, dance, and language are an integral part of any culture and students learned much about India from this in their visit.

Igloo Field Trip

This fall the Grade 1 and 3 classes visited Igloo Pre-Built Homes for a day field trip to enhance their science unit of construction and building. Students toured the manufacturing facility and show homes in the morning to see how everything is created and put together from start to finish. In the afternoon the company brought out two basic wood frame structures and the students worked with the tradesmen learning how to roof, side, paint, and lay carpet. This was an excellent hands-on learning opportunity and practice of not only science, but math as well. It is a wonderful example of bringing the world into the classroom. We would like to thank Igloo Pre-Built Homes for creating such an educational and fun learning experience.
