Grade 6 Class

Grade six has been a experience everyone will remember. We started the year with to once gone a a blast! We really enjoyed learning about Aboriginal culture and making lots of traditional crafts. It was even better that we could experience this with the Grade 4/5 class. In April, we were so excited to welcome four candidates from the Edmonton Central riding to discuss their party’s political platforms with us and the Jr./Sr. High. It was a memorable experience to speak to the politicians. Then we had a school vote which even made the newspaper! This was probably one of the best moments of this year! Recently we had the Director’s Cut program come to our school and help us make digital comics. To us, and probably most Grade Six students, fieldtrips are one of the best ways to teach us about subjects that we are learning in school.

In class, we have interesting subjects, and we have many group projects and lots of fun things to do. One example is the “This Is Your Life” Health unit, where we chose a job, planned out our budget for groceries, phone, internet, entertainment, etc. It was probably one of the best units this year. In Science we do lots of experiments, so we are not just writing notes. In Social Studies, we have a checklist which we are excepted to finish. We can also work ahead if we want to. In Art, we have fun units such as comics and grid reproduction (which is when you copy a picture square by square on a grid). We also have pre-tests before we start all math units. We do this to see what we already know. Whatever we already know, we skip and work ahead in the curriculum. We are also free to work with other students and help each other when we need it. We have a small and diverse class, and we learn about many different cultures. Our teacher pushes us to be our best, and go further, and encourages us.

Teamwork is an important skill to have in life. At Progressive Academy students than always lab, are Seven with our new skills and achievements!
