This was our first year as the Sunflower Room and we enjoyed setting up the classroom with the kids to make their learning environment a memorable one. Together, we explored, created, investigated and played.
This year we decided to create a problem solving center where learners went to solve their own problems with friends. In the end, this center provided a supportive environment where learners were able to effectively and independently work through many social issues with their friends.
We had lots of fun exploring different interests and we enjoyed watching how many of them evolved into other connecting interests.
We started the year by learning Jolly Phonic’s sounds and progressed into blending and later reading. As part of our science program we explored concepts such as the water cycle and the life cycle of the butterfly and frog. To enhance their learning, the children also had the opportunity to raise their own butterflies from larvae.
The Sunflower Room had a wonderful year making new friends and getting to know each other. We truly enjoyed supporting each child grow, learn and develop in their own unique way.
